The painting courses are designed to deepen the participant's knowledge of painting and drawing by studying elements of light, line quality, proportion, gesture, color and composition. In addition to the formal elements, students will be encouraged to develop new ways of seeing and feeling the beauty of the Mediterranean. Students may choose to work in oil, acrylic or watercolor during the art workshops.
In addition, a few days will be set aside in the course to learn monotype printmaking. This will be introduced as an expansion on the painting
and drawing process. Students' sketches from earlier in the week will
be used as the basis for prints. For many students this will be their
first time handling printing inks or working a printing press. Most
participants come to find that it is an interesting medium. It renders
immediate, dramatic and sometimes unexpected results. Printmaking is
unique and often acts as a bridge between the processes of painting
and drawing.
Workshop students should bring their own art supplies according to their chosen media (see below). Transportable folding stools, printmaking ink ' black only, mineral spirits, palettes, brayers for printmaking, rags and soap for the studio will be provided. The list below is a minimum requirement.
